Three very similar structures are compared in this image: dendritic spine apparatus (SA), perikaryal confronting cisterns (CC) – both derivates of smooth endoplasmic reticulum – and nuclear pocket (NP). Their ultrastructural characteristic looks very similar. The medium-dense amorphous material in interspaces between flattened cisterns contains particles, some of them similar to a shape and size of ribosomes or their subunits.
